Geotechnical services across Greater Sydney & NSW
Professional geotechnical engineering support for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects across Sydney and New South Wales — from initial investigation through to construction sign-off.
Geotechnical Investigations
Our geotechnical investigations characterise the subsurface conditions of your site so footings, foundations and pavements can be designed correctly the first time. Fieldwork is scoped to suit your project size and site access, and results are backed by laboratory testing where required.
- Boreholes, test pits and dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) testing
- Soil and rock classification in general accordance with AS 1726
- Groundwater observations
- Laboratory testing (Atterberg limits, particle size distribution, CBR and more)
- Foundation design recommendations for structural engineers
Site Classification (AS2870)
A residential site classification report is required by most councils and certifiers across NSW before slab-on-ground footing design can proceed. We assess soil reactivity and site conditions and classify your site in accordance with AS 2870, giving your builder or structural engineer what they need to design compliant footings.
- Classification for new dwellings, granny flats, additions and extensions
- Assessment of reactive clay, sand, fill and rock sites
- Fast turnaround for time-sensitive builds
- Reports formatted for council and certifier submission
Geotechnical Inspections
On-site inspections confirm that actual ground conditions match the assumptions used in design, and that construction is proceeding in accordance with engineering recommendations.
- Footing and foundation inspections
- Bulk earthworks and compaction verification
- Retaining wall and drainage inspections
- Dilapidation-style observation reports on request
Slope Stability Analysis
Many Sydney and NSW sites — particularly across the Northern Beaches, North Shore, Sutherland Shire, Blue Mountains and Illawarra escarpment — involve natural or constructed slopes that require careful assessment. We analyse slope stability under existing and proposed conditions and recommend stabilisation measures where needed.
- Landslide risk assessment for hillside and escarpment sites
- Stability analysis for cut and fill slopes
- Assessment of proposed development impact on slope stability
- Stabilisation and remediation recommendations
Retaining Wall Analysis
Retaining walls are a common trigger for council attention on sloping or constrained Sydney sites. We review and assess retaining wall design and adequacy, providing the geotechnical input structural engineers and certifiers need for approval.
- Lateral earth pressure and surcharge assessment
- Review of proposed retaining wall design for geotechnical adequacy
- Assessment of existing retaining walls for compliance or defects
- Support for DA and CDC submissions involving retaining structures
Geotechnical services across Sydney & NSW council areas
Ground conditions vary widely across Greater Sydney and regional NSW — from reactive clays in Western Sydney and South West Sydney (Campbelltown, Camden, Liverpool), to Hawkesbury sandstone on the North Shore and Northern Beaches, to steep terrain in the Blue Mountains and Illawarra escarpment. Whatever council area your project falls in — Sydney, Parramatta, The Hills, Sutherland Shire, Hawkesbury, Central Coast, Wollongong, or regional NSW — our reports are prepared to meet local council and certifier requirements.
